Freudian Slip

It was all a long time ago. In a church hall in the Co Tyrone town of Dungannon, a bunch of chaps got together and created a musical sensation, with the longest name in rock history. The band was Freudian Slip and the One-Banded Armadillos Featuring Special Guests Leon Zundinger and the Carpathians Plus the Love Funk Monkey Rhineslap. Hereinafter referred to as Freudian Slip. AFAIK there is another band trading under this name, but unless they can show that they were playing under that name prior to 1992, I think we have the benefit of prior art...

I can't say we were brilliant, but we did have some tracks that, even from the lofty perspective of a decade downstream, kicked ass and then some.

The triumphant "Plugged" session was recorded from the Farewell Comeback Concert, in front of a live audience at Dungannon Presbyterian Church Halls in September 1993. It included such FS classics as:

  • Then She Smiles
  • String of Beans
  • Opus Number 1
  • Old MacDonald (Had a Farm E I E I O)
  • Little Brown Box
  • Never Too Late
  • Heroes of the Wine Bottle

...and many more! We like to think we paved the way for such luminaries as Linkin Park, System of a Down, and Gareth Gates - others may disagree. Since those days, the members of the band have gone their separate ways. I do however hear that Horsey Morgan occasionally belts out "Then She Smiles" at gigs, so in some ways the music lives on. I had to leave as my guitar amp was too heavy for my weak little arms.

I hear that Chris Martin (no, not that Chris Martin, the other one) is putting together some of the old FS tracks on MP3, so keep an eye on his site (if I ever find the URL again).
